We are working hard to be sustainable

We have already put in place a number of measures to make Knapp House more sustainable and have plans for more as we update the accommodation.

The whole property, including the lodges is heated by a bio-mass boiler.  This provides your heating and hot water and runs on wood pellets from renewable sources.  Where you have a wood burner we will provide our own logs which are the result of having to diseased trees from the gardens so they were grown here and are not transported here.

Our electricity is supplied by a company which is registered with the Vegan Society and which is building wind and solar farms.  They claim to be Britain's greenest electricity company committed to investing and developing multiple renewable power sources..

All of our beds have Devon Wool Duvets (we are big fans).  These are made from an entirely sustainable source and we think they are such a great local product.  Our bedding is all cotton and we buy our bathroom products from a small local company which saves on miles and supports local business.

We are gradually moving to Ecover products in all our kitchens and refill where ever possible so your washing-up liquid or olive oil bottle might not be pristine - but it is being used repeatedly. We don't include single-use kitchen sponges or similar so you will find a cotton dishcloth and a multi-use dish washing brush in your lodge.

We encourage our guests to recycle as much as possible and include food caddies in all our lodges with paper liners to that we can add this to our own recycling.
